At first this article explored the measurements on the geographic concentration of industry.Based on these,we studied in-depth the characteristics and trends of industrial geographic concentration,adopting 28 two\|digit manufacturing data of China's 31 provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities between 1980 and 2003.Then we found that the distribution of Chinese manufacturing demonstrates clear geographic concentration characteristics,and since the start of reform and opening up there are a growing trend.But the trends of different types of manufacturing exists larger differences in time and space.From the perspective of central poliey,how to handle the relationship between industrial geographical concentration and regional coordinated development will be an important issues that need to be studied and resolved urgently.
